Fume hood price

Fume hood price in India

Nobody sells a fume hood the way a shop sells a chair. What it costs depends on what you plan to do inside it.

  • Ducted and ductless
  • ASHRAE 110 containment test
  • Supply, install, commission, validate
The straight answerFume hood / India
Is there a list price
No. Every fume hood is quoted per requirement, against your chemistry and your room.
What sets the number
Five decisions, from the exhaust route through to the validation scope.
How to get one
Four inputs, one email, and a figure priced for the lab you actually have.
In one line

Fume hood pricing, in one line

Two hoods of the same width can land far apart on price. The difference is the chemistry each one has to resist, and the work it takes to fit it into your lab. So a fume hood is quoted per requirement. There is no single list price.

The fastest route to a real number is a short conversation about your chemistry and your room. Have it with the team that will size the exhaust and the make-up air around the hood, not with a catalogue desk. That team has engineered the ventilation for 2,000+ controlled environments since 2004, across every industry that needs controlled air. The figure you get back reflects the installed reality, not a box on a shelf.

Cost factors

What drives the price of a fume hood

Two quotes for what looks like the same hood can land far apart. The money is rarely in the box itself. It sits in what gets specified around the box: the material it is built from, the air it has to move, and the proof that it works. These are the factors that move the number, in roughly the order they move it.

Factors that move a fume hood quotation, ordered by typical influence.
Cost factorWhat sits behind it
TypeBasic ducted, ductless carbon-filtered, acid/PP, or perchloric wash-down. Different price classes, and ductless filters add ongoing cost.
SizeBench widths around 1.2-1.8 m, plus walk-in formats. Larger hoods cost more and move more air.
Construction and materialsEpoxy-coated steel, polypropylene for acids, phenolic or ceramic worktops, laminated safety-glass sashes. Corrosion-rated builds cost more.
Ducting, blower and make-up airThe exhaust fan, the ductwork and the lab's make-up air. Often a bigger line than the hood itself, and the item most price lists ignore.
Monitoring and controlsAirflow monitor and alarm, VAV control, sensors.
Installation, commissioning and validationASHRAE 110 containment testing and face-velocity verification. Where the exhaust has to meet CPCB discharge limits, a scrubber on the stack.
Filters (ductless)Replacement carbon and HEPA filters, recurring over the working life of the hood.

FIG. 01Ordered by how much each factor typically moves a quotation. An ordering, not a cost breakdown, and not to scale.

The line most people miss

The line most people miss is make-up air. Air that a hood throws out of the lab has to be replaced, and the replacement has to be conditioned. It is a real cost. It belongs in the quote on day one, not in a surprise later.

The types themselves are laid out on the fume hood overview .

Because of all this, a credible quote starts from your chemistry, your bench and your building. It never starts from a catalogue number.

The decision tree

The five decisions behind a fume hood quote

A price does not exist until five decisions have been made. Walk the tree from the root: each branch changes what is being quoted, and every end point names what we would need from you before a number can be real.

Each step shows how many of the four routes still give that same answer.

FIG. 02Four routes through the same five decisions. Routes that have answered identically so far share a node, so a quotation stops being the same quotation at the step where its route splits away. Every route ends at an ask, never at a figure. Configurations shown are illustrative, not a catalogue.

  1. 01

    Exhaust route

Ducted to a stack, or ductless with carbon filtration. This one answer sets the ductwork, the blower and the make-up air load.

  2. 02

    Carcass and liner

What the chemistry demands: epoxy-coated steel, polypropylene for acid duty, phenolic or ceramic worktops.

  3. 03

    Width and fittings

Bench width or a walk-in format, and how many gas, water and power services come through the liner.

  4. 04

    Monitoring and alarm

An airflow monitor at the sash, an audible alarm, VAV control, or a link into the building management system.

  5. 05

    Validation scope

Face velocity verified at handover, ASHRAE 110 containment testing as installed, or a witnessed test to your own protocol.

The honest answer

Why are fume hoods “expensive”?

Ask why a hood costs what it does, and the honest answer is that you are not buying furniture. You are buying the air system that makes the furniture safe. An empty cabinet does nothing on its own. A cabinet that pulls the right volume of air away from the person at the sash is what keeps that person safe.

Most of the cost is the ventilation engineering around the box. That means moving and safely discharging large volumes of air, then replacing it with conditioned make-up air. It also means resisting aggressive chemistry and proving containment to a standard.

A hood priced only as a piece of furniture usually has that engineering missing. That is where under-specified hoods fail.

So a cheap quote can turn out to be the expensive one.

The cost left out of it does not disappear. It shows up later, as a hood that does not protect the person standing at it. Paying for the airflow design is paying for the hood actually protecting the operator.

Get a number

Fume hood price in India: how to get an accurate quote

You do not need a finished design to get a useful number. A fume hood price in India comes together from four inputs, and most labs can answer all four in one email.

Your chemistry
The type of hood, and the material it is built from
Your bench size
The hood width, or a walk-in format
Whether ducting is available
Ducted or ductless, and the make-up air that comes with it
Whether you need monitoring and validation
Airflow monitoring and controls, plus containment testing

FIG. 04Four answers in one email are enough to price a hood, its ducting, its make-up air and its validation together.

Share those four and the quote reflects the real installed cost, with make-up air and commissioning included. It is not a headline box price that grows once the work starts.

Fabtech Cleanrooms supplies and integrates fume hoods as part of the lab ventilation design, and quotes each one per requirement. Send us your chemistry and your bench size. What comes back is a real installed number, with hood, ducting, make-up air and validation costed together.
